玻璃按性能特點分為：鋼化玻璃、多孔玻璃（即泡沫玻璃，孔徑約40，用于海水淡化、病毒過濾等方面）、導電玻璃（用作電極和飛機風擋玻璃）、微晶玻璃、乳濁玻璃（用于照明器件和裝飾物品等）和中空玻璃（用作門窗玻璃）等。
